Clinical Nutrition

Our Clinical Nutrition Class will cover nutrition through the lifespan to include:
infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics for healthy populations, acute illnesses, and the chronically ill.

We will also cover major nutritional groups to include protiens, lipids, carbohydrates, vitamins, enzymes/co-enzymes. We will study the recommendations for healthy eating set forth by the USDA and compare different diet plans in our country with those set forth by the World Health Organization. We will thoroughly cover the digestive system for healthy individuals as well as cover diseases related to digestion and its effects on overall health. This will include an overview of therapeutic diets for both acute and chronic illnesses.

Students will be required to complete and present projects related to nutrition including two classroom compilations: 1. Therapeutic Diets, and 2. Diseases/Disorders of the Digestive System. Both of these compilations will be completed on the class wikispace which will be reviewed every Friday class period in the "Friday Nutrition Smackdown." As students complete the projects, they will be responsible for presenting this information which must include pictures, graphics, powerpoint presentations and podcasts.
